Passing the word along from our State Program Directory:

Worthy State Officers, Chaplains, Coordinators, District Deputies, Grand Knights, Communicators and Brothers,

In the highly charged political world that we live in no one or no institution is above attack. The Catholic Church has been taking an increasingly more vocal approach to condemning the “culture of death” and the attacks upon the innocent from terrorists and drug lords. It follows therefore that it too will be attacked, in turn, as it continues to defend the vulnerable. Today, we are witnessing the most insidious of attacks against the Holy Father himself.

As faithful Catholics and brothers of reason and logic we must recognize the responsibility that we have to understand this issue so that we can best defend our Holy Catholic Church. The Holy Father has dealt with the issue of pedophilia in a manner that he felt was the best at the time. None of us can undo the past and so we pray that our actions are always the right ones. The judgment process of these grievous sins will take their course but the defense of the Church will always be ours. Brothers I pray that each of you will pray for the Holy Father as requested and not fear defense of our religion.

Vivat Jesus, Robert Halaska, State Program Director, Wisconsin Knights of Columbus

Pope Benedict XVI

Now as we have all witnessed the signing into law of the Health Care Reform and Education Act there is a need, more than ever, to stay vigilant to this law’s provisions and not allow rumor, bad interpretations, and misrepresentations to creep into discussions of the application of this law. Therefore it is the intention of the Wisconsin Knights of Columbus to continue to supply official interpretations from our Brothers at Supreme and the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops.

With that purpose in mind the following information about the Health Care Reform Law is being copied from the Supreme web site (www.kofc.org) for immediate distribution among the brothers of Wisconsin.

Entire article here:

In answer to the many requests concerning the Haiti earthquake and what the Knights of Columbus plan on doing, please pass along the following.

This is a call to action. Haiti is a predominantly Catholic Country, so our aid will be a major mental and physical comfort to those suffering from this catastrophe.

To All Knights of Columbus:

In an effort to come to the aid of the people of Haiti, who are suffering a humanitarian catastrophe of huge proportions in the wake of Tuesday evening’s 7.0 earthquake, the Knights of Columbus has today sent an immediate contribution of $50,000 to Catholic Relief Services, and we invite Knights to make contributions through the Supreme Council so that we can maximize the impact of the funds raised, and document the amount donated in this tragedy by members of the Order.

Donations by individual Knights can be made on line, and this feature should be available on the Supreme Council website (www.kofc.org) by later this evening.  Checks should be made out to Knights of Columbus Charities, Inc. and mailed to 1 Columbus Plaza, New Haven, CT 06510.  Please write “Haiti Earthquake Relief” on the memo line of the check.

Contributions will be used to provide assistance wherever it can have the most immediate impact, and where the need is greatest.

We ask all Knights and their families to also offer their prayers for the victims of this terrible disaster.

Vivat Jesus brothers

Worthy Communicators and Brothers of the Wisconsin Jurisdiction,

You have never seen me send out a more urgent message and I pray that you never will again!

The attached letter to our State Deputy, from Supreme Knight Carl Anderson, and their directions to me explains in clear terms the action that each of us needs to take in the next few days. Please contact your Congress men and Senators in Washington, now, to state your objection to forced abortion funding in the Health Care Reform Act.

Congress is about to pass a Health Care Reform Act that will force Catholics and all Christians of conscience to end human life on demand. Last week Archbishop Timothy Dolan, now of New York, signed what is known as the “Manhattan Declaration”. This document is cosigned by most all main stream Christian Religions in the Nation and, of course, by the USCCB. The document is brief, to the point and states emphatically as follows:

The Manhattan Declaration

A Call of Christian Conscience

Christians, when they have lived up to the highest ideals of their faith, have defended the weak and vulnerable and worked tirelessly to protect and strengthen vital institutions of civil society, beginning with the family.

We are Orthodox, Catholic, and evangelical Christians who have united at this hour to reaffirm fundamental truths about justice and the common good, and to call upon our fellow citizens, believers and non-believers alike, to join us in defending them. These truths are:

1.       the sanctity of human life

2.       the dignity of marriage as the conjugal union of husband and wife

3.       the rights of conscience and religious liberty.
Inasmuch as these truths are foundational to human dignity and the well-being of society, they are inviolable and non-negotiable. Because they are increasingly under assault from powerful forces in our culture, we are compelled today to speak out forcefully in their defence, and to commit ourselves to honouring them fully no matter what pressures are brought upon us and our institutions to abandon or compromise them. We make this commitment not as partisans of any political group but as followers of Jesus Christ, the crucified and risen Lord, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

319862 signatures in support

…and growing!
Sign the Declaration »
Brothers, read carefully the last paragraph because our Bishops are now suggesting that if this Act goes into law, in its present form, it will require Christians of conscience to resort to civil disobedience in the defense of life. This is very serious. If you are alarmed, you need to be… again, it is time that you contact your Congressmen and both Senators to voice your objection to this “Culture of Death” law.

Please bring this up at all Council Business meetings. This is a matter of faith and needs to be discussed so that actions can be taken individually and as a group. You need to have your voice heard now!

Urgent Pro-Life Alert
July 22, 2009

Abortion mandate in health bill

The healthcare reform legislation currently before Congress contains an abortion mandate that is a grave threat to human life. The bill’s language will result in federally mandated abortion coverage by nearly all health plans, recruitment of abortion doctors into local health networks, and the nullification of many state laws that place reasonable limits on abortion.
The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) has called this legislation the “largest expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade.”

We urge you to write to your senators and congressman today.  Click here where you can learn more about the health legislation and send a message to your two senators and congressman.

To read a letter from 19 House Democrats who insist they will not support a health bill unless it explicitly excludes abortion, click here.
Time is of the essence as congressional leaders want to pass the bill in the Senate and House by the end of July.
A coalition of prominent pro-life leaders have arranged a Stop The Abortion Mandate live webcast for the public this Thursday, July 23rd, 2009, at 9 PM Eastern (8PM Central, 7 PM Mountain, 6 PM Pacific).
Please go to www.stoptheabortionmandate.com to register.
