In answer to the many requests concerning the Haiti earthquake and what the Knights of Columbus plan on doing, please pass along the following.

This is a call to action. Haiti is a predominantly Catholic Country, so our aid will be a major mental and physical comfort to those suffering from this catastrophe.

To All Knights of Columbus:

In an effort to come to the aid of the people of Haiti, who are suffering a humanitarian catastrophe of huge proportions in the wake of Tuesday evening’s 7.0 earthquake, the Knights of Columbus has today sent an immediate contribution of $50,000 to Catholic Relief Services, and we invite Knights to make contributions through the Supreme Council so that we can maximize the impact of the funds raised, and document the amount donated in this tragedy by members of the Order.

Donations by individual Knights can be made on line, and this feature should be available on the Supreme Council website (www.kofc.org) by later this evening.  Checks should be made out to Knights of Columbus Charities, Inc. and mailed to 1 Columbus Plaza, New Haven, CT 06510.  Please write “Haiti Earthquake Relief” on the memo line of the check.

Contributions will be used to provide assistance wherever it can have the most immediate impact, and where the need is greatest.

We ask all Knights and their families to also offer their prayers for the victims of this terrible disaster.

Vivat Jesus brothers

Soon the Color Guard was back in line. The Order of the Mass was beginning. They marched toward the makeshift altar with their backs to the thick slab of polished black granite that stood upright, a little taller than a five year old, behind the last row of lawn chairs. 'In loving memory of God's aborted unborn children,' the inscription read.

This article is in response to a blog post from a Catholic Priest, who is opposing the Knights efforts in their stance on same sex marriage.  After reading both articles, it is becoming more apparent that local Councils need to work together to present a positive image not only in our community but in our parishes as well.  Be proud to be a Knight.

The Knights of Columbus was built for the times in which we now live. The founding vision of Father Michael J. McGivney for such a noble Knighthood dramatically overshadows the rhetoric of the Father Farrow’s who seek to dumb-down the Church. He sought to build up the muscles and marrow of Catholic men to face the tumult that confronted them in life.

This article was in response to Fr. Farrow’s blog post, which calls for the boycott of KofC by priests and bishops because of Supreme stance on Prop. 8 in California.

Here is a neat story from Georgia:

My Secret Knight In Shining Armor

We have rarely missed a date night during our 26 years of marriage. We relax by the fireplace during winter, and in the warmer months, we head out to the deck. There, we sip wine, have supper and talk. We cover a smorgasbord of topics: his art, my writing, family, near and far, and our faith journeys.

Last night, though, my husband came home with a secret. He was away for the evening, and when I asked him how it had gone, he said, “I can’t say.”

Oddly enough, this response didn’t bother me at all. Instead, it rather thrilled me.

Received the following email alert yesterday from Fathers For Good:

Read about Navy Commander responsible in no small amount for the resuce Capt. Phillips from pirates:

A KNIGHT TO THE RESCUE:

The Commander of the Navy ship that rescued Capt. Richard Phillips from the pirates is a member of the Knights of Columbus for more than 20 years.

What’s the message hear? For all the good an organization does, why must other groups continue to oppose them?

Here is a snipit of  Tim Graham’s artrical “New ‘Faith-Based’ Obama Advisor Says Pope Is ‘Discredited,’ Knights of Columbus Are ‘An Army of Oppression’

Here’s another story that underlines how ludicrous the media have been in insisting Barack Obama was a natural choice for traditional Catholic and evangelical Christian voters: CNSNews.com correspondent Fred Lucas reports Obama finished stocking the advisory committee of his faith-based initiative with a bang: one new selection was Harry Knox, director of the “religion and faith program” of the gay-left Human Rights Campaign. Just last month, Knox described Pope Benedict XVI and certain Catholic bishops as “discredited leaders” because of their opposition to same-sex marriage.

Good news, bad news I guess ~ the fact that legislators thought they could simply pass a bill like speaks volumes about how some politicians want to destroy not only the Catholic Church, but our religious freedom we enjoy here in America. The good news is that this bill seems to be defeated – at least for now!  Read more about the bill and how Connecticut Church, lead by the Knights help organize and defeat this bill.

On what would have been the day of Bill 1098’s public hearing in the General Assembly’s Judiciary Committee, bishops from the state’s three dioceses, along with other speakers, including Carl Anderson, Supreme Knight of the Connecticut-based Knights of Columbus, addressed a crowd of more than 5,000 Catholics and others concerned for religious freedom.

The overall theme of the rally: that Bill 1098 should never have been raised, that it smacked of anti-Catholicism and that the Catholic Church in Connecticut strongly supported the bishops and priests threatened by the legislation.

Neat little story about what our Brother Knights in New Hampshire are doing to spread the word to “Keep Christ in Christmas”

The catchphrase targets the commercialism that runs rampant this time of year, said Ron Turcotte, state program director for the New Hampshire Knights of Columbus.
