Very interesting post about California Proposition 8 to eliminate the right of same-sex marriage:
The post questions why is the California Teachers Union is donating so much money to try and defeat this proposal – quoting the blogger:
the single largest contributors to the No on 8 campaign is the California Teachers Union Issues Political Action Committee – $2 million.
I could certainly understand the CTUI PAC contributing to a school construction bond initiative, or a curriculum or testing initiative, or to defeat a voucher proposition – something that actually is related to education or to pay and benefits for their membership.
If that’s truly the case, then why is the teachers’ union spending a very large sum of its members’ dues on this issue?
The “No on 8” radio ads claim that this issue has nothing to do with public education. They quote the superintendent of public instruction claiming this initiative will have no effect on California’s public school curriculum.
